Privacy Policy

USBCHECK is a creative collective in Portland, Oregon. This policy says what we collect when you use usbcheck.co, join our list or come to our events, what we do with it, who helps us run it, and how to have it changed or deleted. Questions: contact@usbcheck.co.

What we collect

  • Your account. The phone number or e-mail address you sign in with, your name, the Instagram or TikTok handle if you add one, the shows you save, the artists you follow, when you accepted our Terms, and how you found us (for example a link from Instagram).
  • Google sign-in. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and e-mail address. We ask for nothing else, and we don't keep anything that would let us act on your Google account.
  • Our texts list. If you joined USBCHECK texts before 1 October 2026 through the list service we used then, your number and the date you joined move with you to our own list, so you keep getting the texts you signed up for. Anyone who opted out there stays out.
  • Your consent to texts. When you join USBCHECK texts on this site, we record the words you were shown, the page, the time, your number, your IP address and your browser, as proof of your choice.
  • Your consent to e-mails. When you join our e-mails on this site, we record the same: the words you were shown, the page, the time, your address, your IP address and your browser.
  • Show guest lists. After a show, we may read the ticket seller's guest list (for example from Posh): only the e-mail addresses and phone numbers of the people who checked in, and only to match them to people already on our texts or e-mail lists — to send those who were there the night's photos. Everyone else is dropped, nobody is added to a list from it, and the matches are deleted 90 days after the show.
  • Tickets on Posh. When you buy a ticket to one of our shows on Posh, Posh sends us your order: your name, e-mail address, phone number and Instagram if you gave it, the tickets, what you paid, the link or promo code you came through, your answers to the checkout's questions, and later any refund. We use it to know who is coming and how our shows sell, and we keep it with an account in your name. Buying a ticket doesn't join you to our texts or e-mails: only a yes to a checkout question that asks, and never if you had left that list.
  • Purchases. If you buy from us, your name, e-mail address, phone number, shipping address and what you bought. Stripe takes the payment; we never see your card number.
  • Photos and video from our events. We photograph and film our nights, so you may appear in what we publish. We keep an internal archive of this footage; it is not public. We don't use facial recognition: nothing in the archive identifies people from their faces.
  • How the site is used. Our own analytics (Umami, run on our server) counts pages viewed, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, and your country. It sets no cookies, keeps no IP addresses, and doesn't follow you to other sites. You can turn it off for your browser at usbcheck.co/analytics-optout.
  • Security records. When someone signs in, fails to, or the site errors, we record the time, the account or address involved, and the IP address, to protect accounts and fix problems.

Text messages (USBCHECK texts)

When you join USBCHECK texts with your mobile number, you agree to receive recurring automated marketing texts from USBCHECK about drops and events. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, or Reply STOP to opt out — or switch off “Text me drops & events” on your account page. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. The texts are sent by our SMS provider, Twilio. The full terms are in our Terms of Use.

We use your number to send these texts and to sign you in. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes; text opt-in data and consent are never shared with anyone except Twilio, which sends the texts.

E-mail (USBCHECK e-mails)

“Email me updates” is ticked when a join step opens, and you can untick it before you join. There is no confirmation e-mail: your address joins our list when you join with the box left ticked, or when you turn on e-mails on your account page. Joining again after you unsubscribed puts you back on the list.

You choose what you get on your account's notifications page: general news, show announcements, reminders, photos & videos, merch and articles, and the shows you follow. If you joined our e-mails before 1 October 2026, through the list service we used then, you get our show announcements only, until you choose more.

Every e-mail has a one-click unsubscribe — your mail app's button, or the link at the bottom — and the unsubscribe page has a Resubscribe button if you change your mind. An address that bounces, or that marks our e-mail as spam, is never mailed again. Our e-mails are sent by Twilio SendGrid. The texts are a separate list: leaving one never leaves the other.

Opens and clicks

Our e-mails tell us whether they were opened. The links in our e-mails and texts go through our own short links (usbcheck.co/e/… in e-mails, usbcheck.co/t/… in texts), which count the click and take you straight on. We use these counts to learn what people read; they aren't shared with anyone.

Artists

Artist pages show public, professional information about the artists who play our shows: a bio, a photo, links to their profiles, and public streaming figures from Songstats. An artist can ask us to change or remove any of it at contact@usbcheck.co.

Cookies and storage

We set only what the site needs to work: a sign-in cookie while you're signed in, two short-lived cookies during a Google sign-in, a cookie our server's front door uses to route your requests, and a 30-day cookie that remembers which friend's link brought you, when you follow one. Your browser also stores a few settings for this site (for example that you closed the join pop-up, or turned analytics off). We use no advertising or tracking cookies.

Some pages embed players from SoundCloud, YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode), Spotify, Mixcloud, Apple Music and Bandcamp. Those services may set their own cookies when their player loads; their privacy policies apply. Ticket links take you to the ticket seller (for example Posh or Resident Advisor), whose policies apply there.

How we use it

  • To run your account: signing you in, sending sign-in codes, saving your shows.
  • To send the texts and e-mails you chose to get, and to stop when you ask.
  • To show members our full galleries and let them download photos.
  • To understand which pages and links people use, so we can make the site better.
  • To keep accounts and the site secure, and to fix errors.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.

Who helps us run it

These companies process data for us, only to provide their service:

  • Twilio — sends our texts, and sends and checks the sign-in codes we text.
  • Twilio SendGrid — sends our e-mails, and tells us when one bounces, is opened or is marked as spam.
  • Google — Google sign-in, and our e-mail (Google Workspace), which sends sign-in codes by e-mail.
  • Stripe — takes payments for what you buy from us.
  • DigitalOcean (Spaces) — stores our photos, files and backups.
  • Oracle Cloud — hosts the website and its database.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people's safety.

How long we keep it

  • Your account, until you delete it or ask us to.
  • Your place on our texts and e-mail lists, and your consents, until you ask us to delete them. When you leave a list, we keep that you left — the number or address, when and how — for good, so no list can add you back.
  • Records of the texts we sent you and their clicks, 4 years; of our e-mails and their opens and clicks, 2 years.
  • Texts you send us: their words and pictures 90 days, the record that one came 1 year.
  • Matches from a show's guest list, 90 days after the show.
  • A purchase, 7 years (tax records); a checkout that was never paid, 90 days.
  • A Posh ticket order, 7 years; a ticket request that never became an order, 90 days.
  • Security records, 14 days to 120 days depending on how serious they are; the record of what our staff changed, 1 year.
  • Database backups, 14 days.
  • Event photos and video, as part of our history, unless you ask us to remove one of you.

Your choices

  • See, correct or delete your data. E-mail contact@usbcheck.co from the address or about the number on your account. We'll answer within 30 days, and deleting your account also removes your saved shows and settings.
  • Texts. Reply STOP to any text, or switch off “Text me drops & events” on your account page (see Text messages, above).
  • E-mails. Unsubscribe in one click from any e-mail, or turn e-mails off on your account page (see E-mail, above).
  • Analytics. Turn it off for your browser at usbcheck.co/analytics-optout.
  • A photo of you. E-mail us the link and we'll take it down from the site, and stop using it.

Depending on where you live, you may have more rights over your data (for example in California or Oregon). Write to us and we'll honor them. We don't track you across other sites, so browser “Do Not Track” signals don't change what we do.

Children

usbcheck.co isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, tell us and we'll delete it. Many of our events are 21+.

Security

Sign-in codes are stored scrambled and expire in minutes, sign-in cookies can't be read by scripts, and member-only photos are served through links that expire. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for a significant change we'll say so on the site or by message.
